My son who is 11 years old has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD by a immunological doctor who did all the testing which included blood work and an EEG. The doctor gave me a prescription for Adderal XR of which I had filled but my son now refuses to take because of the way it makes him feel (out of the body experience). That was three years ago and now he is getting worse with physical violence/yelling/screaming, etc. if he doesn't get his way!!! I have tried psychological counseling to no avail, what am I to do with him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been there, done that with my own sons! He needs limits and will conclude he's not loved if no one works hard enough to be strong with him. Was the psychologist doing cognitive behavioral therapy? That should work very well. He behaves as he does because it's getting what he thinks he wants. A good cognitive behavioral therapist will help you learn how to establish control and help your son learn to feel good about being good. Try www.chadd.org for help, too. Also check with www.nichcy.org/ in your state's resource page for a Parent Training & Information Center--they will be WOW helpful for issues with school. I wish you success! Michele
