Introduction

Posted by cheryl137

Hello, my name is Cheryl, I'm new at this but I need some support, insight, something.   My son, who is 7 was diagnosed with ADHD last month.  Family & friends have tried to tell me he needed medicine to "slow him down", for the past few years, but he is very smart & his grades had never suffered so I resisted as long as I could.   After school was out this year I finally gave in because I could not keep up with him, noone could.  We started him on Vyvanse & had a life-threatening reaction, he threatened to kill himself AND he had a plan at 7 YEARS OLD.  I took him to his PCP, then to a psychiatric clinic for evaluation.  He is on suicide watch  until we can get him in to see a psychiatrist.  This has been a horrible ordeal, I still can't believe it.   He is sweet, smart, gorgeous, compassionate, empathetic, friendly, inquisitive, & more, he has so many good qualities & alot of people who love him.  My heart is broken to see this happen to my son, to see him say those words, for him to even think like this.  The therapist told me we are just starting a life-long process.  When she was talking I was still in shock but I was thinking, "you think I don't know that?"  Please let me hear other thoughts, experiences, thank you, Cheryl
