Understanding ADHD

I just recently found out that I had ADHD and do not understand what the doctor saw in me to diagnose this when no other doctor has ever even mentioned it. But it exactly describes how I act, and why I cannot focus or think most of the time. He gave me some medicine for it, but I need to know what can make my symptoms worse or what can make them better. If anyone out there knows would you please help me?
