addiction and recovery

Posted by elissaS

I'm glad to join the community. I would like to correspond with people who have traveled the road of being clean and the day to day ups and downs. I was a severe heroin/cocaine intravenous addict for 15 yrs. I've been clean for 9 now--no rehab--I just decided to call it a night and had to go thru withdrawals, but after the physical thing, it took my 3 yrs. to really get the emotions and stuff all together. What a journey! So anyone interested in talkiing.....

I, too, have been sober( from alcohol,) without going to rehab. I am 14 years sober. It cost me my marriage, but I am alive today, and he is dead (set his house on fire from cigarette while drinking) I have gone thru many ups and downs, still  do it a day at a time. Relapse IS NOT an option for me. Next time, I won't be able to stop.  Sara B.

Me too,

Dual diagnosis, I've been sober for seven years.  I almost died from alcohol consumption and flushing my meds down the toilet.  Meds can't work while drinking even moderately with me, but somewhere in the end , I lost control of drinking and I know that if I start again, I will lose my family and maybe my life.  It took me years to realize that.
