Almost Relapsed

Posted by David1234

After a horrible week on all fronts, personal life, work, and just a general depression, i'm horrified to say that I was the closest to picking up a drink than I've been since my initial recovery.

It took my entire being to fight the urge and luckily i was able to find a meeting within an hour.  This is the life of an addict. it is a constant struggle. as much as i'm ashamed i'm so proud that i managed to fight it..this time.

Dear David, you should be proud of yourself! I've worked with addiction patients and I can tell you that you are in the minority for being able to fight the urge. Stay strong! I am proud of you too!

Dear David, I second what Carol said. You should be proud of yourself. Just have faith in yourself and believe that you can do this. I think it's a smart idea to have a support group. They will only be able to help you through this battle. Good luck to you

Hey David- As a recovering addict and alcoholic I am very familiar with what you are going through. In fact this last week my grandfather passed away, the week before I had to put my dog to sleep and I've been having horrible using dreams as well. In the face of that my sleep patterns are all screwed up, I'm exhausted, and I haven't really tended to my responsibilities as well as I would like. The answer: stay sober, go to meetings, talk to my sponsor, talk to other guys in my life that are on the same path and just keep going because it will pass and every day is a good day. Every situation is an opportunity to practice these principles.
