When WIll My

Posted by HopeIsntGone

LIving as a pill addict for so many years, I grew accustomed to having an extremely low, if not totally non-existent, drive.  Now that I've been clean for a significant portion of time, I'm surprised that it still hasn't returned and i'm wondering if this is normal? am i going to have a low  for the rest of my life??

As a recovering addict and alcoholic I always try to remember that I used and drank for longer than I've been sober. After over a decade of practicing bad behaviors and having almost no discipline I am learning to get back to "normal". Its arduous work and has required me to attend rehab for 15 months where I had to do chores every day and be accountable for everything I did. I make my bed everyday but my room is a mess. I eat a healthy breakfast adn lunch but usually have an unhealthy dinner. I get to the gym a couple times a week usually but haven't been in two weeks. Its a process of taking care of myself and when I do I feel better more of the time but do still feel low. Its been almost 5 years since I last used... and I'm still making progress inch by inch. I hate the slogans but it does work if you work it.

Also work the 12 steps... they will lead to some profound changes.

I agree that the slogans sound cheesy but it is a "take it one day at a time" process. Try not to overwhelm yourself with all the things you need to improve in your life. Pick on thing at a time and work on that. If you feel that you need to feel healthy again, start by eating right or you can go to the gym. You don't have to do both. Like the previous post said, you can eat healthy for breakfast and lunch and then eat what you want for dinner. The point is not to feel overwhelmed.
