A Crystal Ball Would Be Nice
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a special crystal ball that we could gaze into and actually see what our loved ones are feeling in the dynamic, often difficult, dance we call caregiving.
And wouldn't it be comforting to gaze into our crystal ball and see what other families are feeling and thinking as they care for their loved ones.
While our dear friend, Jim Vanden Bosch from TerraNova Films, can't give us that crystal ball, he did stop by the Cafe this morning to offer us the next best thing -- his brand new on-line VideoCaregiving Center where we can see and hear caregivers and care recipients, families and experts sharing their innermost thoughts and feelings about this ever-changing, dynamic dance called caregiving.
A few Cafe friends instantly huddled around Cindy's laptop and clicked on it. A hush fell over the Cafe as we all saw and heard the sorrow and the smiles, the hopes and the fears of people living with Alzheimer's, simply asking to be spoken to and treated with respect and understanding.
More than a few tears welled up in our eyes as we Cafe friends saw and heard the honest self-reflections of a caregiver daughter and a son caught up in dances with their parents -- each one so familiar to us; yet each one so unique.
And a collective sigh of relief filled the Cafe as we listened to the practical wisdom of professionals, reminding us to care for the caregiver as they taught us simple new steps to make the dance easier and more fulfilling for the giver as well as the recipient.
Thank you, Jim, for sharing the next best thing with caregivers everywhere! Hoping that each of your dances get easier and more fulfilling, Jackie
