How Did this Happen?

Posted by kpreston

I never was able to gain weight and now it's just piling on! Fiber? Water? Exercise? Help!!

Re: Diet, Weight Loss & Nutrition

There could be many possible reasons why you're gaining weight but I would need to know more about your particular situation to try to pinpoint the exact reason. A Registered Dietitian could help identify the reasons and help develop a plan for you.  To find an R.D. in your area, visit www.eatright.org.

In general, as you age, your metabolism slows down and it is easier to gain weight, even if you;re eating the same amount and haven't changed your activity level.

As for fiber, for optimal health, men should eat about 35 grams of fiber a day and women should eat 25 grams each day.  As for water, a rough estimate is to take your weight in pounds and divide by 2 for the number of ounces recommended per day.  As for exercise, everyone should exercise daily for best health.  To maintain weight, 30-60 minutes of exercise is recommended on most days of the week and to lose weight, 90 minutes most days of the week.

Hope this helps.  Best wishes.
