Hi. I'm Type II Diabetic and have lost 30 pounds since diagnosed but I seem to be at a stand still. I have noticed that my self control is not what it was in the beginning when I was first diagnosed. I have become more laxed and have been overeating and eating things that I should not be eating. My will power and self control desperately needs an overhaul. Is there any one who can give me some tips or ideas on how I can over pass this hurdle? I am in desperate need to get back on track. Please help!!!!

Hello
First of all, am not an expert about type 2 diabetes, but willpower is my middle name. If it is one thing,it is my determination to not lose the challenges i set for myself. You, are that same type of person when i viewed your profile. You want your family to not confront your challenges too.
For myself, It is my distrust of the food industry that i obtain my greatest challenges to try to figure what these food folks learn to strike higher desires in foods that become altered to appeal to a person's appetite for example. My distrust in their foods makes my willpower stronger.
I can be completely wrong about my thoughts, but the willpower tells me it is not worse to not believe too.
I really think, they ( the food processers) are a big step ahead of the consumer for not just making food healthy or unhealthy but for making folks overeat too.I am not a nut case, just someone that truly does not trust those whom should be trusted.
That is where i believe the science of Genetically modified foods, high fructose corn syrup and now,Nanotechnology will lead this industry.if you think your food is never or not Genetically modified, that is a dream,in my opinion too.
I still believe that high fructose corn syrup is garbage.i believe that the liver can only process so much of that corn syrup at any given time and helps turn that excess into body fat. I could care less what any food company states about their corn syrup trash.it is bad enough that the big name of ketchup has the stuff inside it and not just tomatoes.
You mention overeating and eating things that you should not be eating.
i think the foods you eat can sometimes be the problems as well as lack of sleep. I believe that processed foods must taste nasty as sin if not having added so much sodium to it.
First idea is get enough sleep. lack of sleep does not help the ghrelin and leptin hormones in the body
go to wikipedia and learn about these two hormones and look at nanotechnology, high fructose corn syrup and about food too.
Another thought is maybe stress and cortisol.Reduce stress by deep breathing, exercise, flexing your muscles by flexing and relaxing your muscles may help reduce stress.Stress can trigger eating bad foods too.
About foods try to "trick" your brain concerning your likes of types of foods and the pleasures eating those foods that are not good for yourself. When you want that particular kind of food to eat, trick your brain to think instead that you want some other type of food that is a better treat than let's say that bad food example.
When you lose control of eating certain foods, try to figure out what foods or thoughts changed your eating better and think instead of how you will change your habits back good again. Remember, you are in charge.Anything that works you keep it, anything that don't work forget it.
If you like to walk, run, certain type of exercise, go and convince yourself to add time to that activity as a reward for doing yourself a favor ny controlling your habits. Maybe when you were alot younger when you were a teen, you liked rollerskating, iceskating or dancing to music.
Go back to those exciting memories and give it a try again.
water is good, grains are good, take a walk with family too
lastly, anything you learn that works for you, pass that on to your family and then as a group your family will succeed even better.
All in all, can't hurt to try.
