ONE OF THE WORST SYMPTOMS THAT I HAVE IS KNOTS ON MY MUSCLES, USUALLY START NEAR MY SPINE, AND SPREAD OUT , THE PAIN IS CRIPPLING!!! I HAVE ONLY HEARD 1 OTHER PERSON MENTION THIS KNOTTING OR CLINCHING OF THE MUSCLES . IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS, OR ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR RELIEF PLEASE LET ME KNOW. ( I`VE TRIED PAIN INJECTIONS, AND BLOCKS, ) , MADE IT WORSE.

I recently had both of my knee joints replaced and the trauma my legs went through has caused what you have described in both calves and front and back thigh muscles. I know the pain I experienced there is not as intense as yours in the back, but I would describe the type of pain the same as you have. I told my physical therapist that this was restricting the flex in my knees, flex was her biggest concern, and she began deep tissue messages on the muscles. When she felt a "knot", and I know exactly what you mean, she would press her finger or thumb on the spot hard enough to compress the knot, which hurts like hell, but when she released the pressure she described the relief I felt as a rush of oxygen to the area which helps relax the tissues and makes the message more effective.
I have since been going to a message therapist to help in my remaining rehabilitation and I find it to be quite helpful...along with a proper diet. That is something that I have also become quite aware of. Eating the wrong foods is bad for you. Find out what foods are right for improving muscle strength and tone and stick with it. Good luck.
