Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Blood clots.
• Blood in your urine.
• Chest pain.
• Heart attack.
• Seeing things that aren't there.
• Seizures (convulsions).
• Uneven heart beat.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Confusion, weakness, or muscle twitching or cramping.
• Funny or bad taste in your mouth.
• Headache or stuffy nose.
• Heavy sweating.
• Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting.
• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
• Ringing in your ears.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used

How to Use This Medicine

Solution

• Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often you should receive it. This medicine is given as a shot into one of your muscles or veins.
• A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. This medicine is given after delivery of the placenta, or during the second stage of labor.
• Your doctor may also prescribe methylergonovine tablets for you to take. Be sure to follow all your doctor's instructions.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using other ergot medicines, such as ergotamine (Cafergot®, Ergomar®, Ergostat®), bromocriptine (Parlodel®), ergoloid mesylates (Hydergine®), or methysergide (Sansert®). Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using ephedrine, pseudoephedrine (Sudafed®), or phenylephrine (Neo-Synephrine®).

Warnings While Using This Medicine

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have sepsis (severe infection). Make sure your doctor knows if you have heart disease, or if you have kidney or liver problems.
