getting over a cold when you're pregnant

Posted by whatsnewkay

I've been told that it's harder to get over a cold when you're pregnant. I'm not sure why this is. Is it because your body is working extra hard for the mother and baby and isn't able to also fight off a cold as quickly?

I remember it taking forever to get over a cold when I was pregnant with my son. I always pride myself on getting over a cold faster than most people. It took me over two weeks to get over this one cold.

It could be that the body is trying hard to protect the baby from the cold and sort of neglecting the mother a bit. I've heard that it's harder to get over certain illnesses when a woman is pregnant.

There are stronger and stronger strains of colds and flu?s going around this year. It might just be the type of cold you've caught. I would do what my mother always did when I was sick. Cut a lemon in half, squeeze the juice into a pot filled with one cup of water. Cut up what's left of the lemon and throw it into the pot as well. Boil the lemon for about 10 minutes. Add extra water if it starts to dry up too fast. Poor just the water into a cup and add a bit of honey. It'll knock the cold right out of you!
