Upward Move: Rob Rebak

May 2009

A BLANK WHITEBOARD is what Rob Rebak, newly appointed CEO of Marketing Technology Solutions (MTS), was given to work with by his board of directors — and he’s thrilled. Rebak believes he can put MTS ahead of the game in terms of the performance-based online healthcare marketing industry.

“I’d like a much higher percentage of the pharma advertising space to be truly data and performance driven,” he explains. “Other industries have already gone there. Pharma will too. In my mind, it’s just a question of how quickly.”

Rebak, whose educational background includes a bachelor's from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Chicago, began his career in big pharma with commercial roles at Pfizer, Schering-Plough and Bristol-Myers Squibb and in interactive marketing at SimStar, Rosetta and ParentingTeenNetwork.

Along his path to success, Reback was able to pick up some important career lessons. “Do something that you find really interesting,” he says. “Surround yourself with good people and appreciate them — you’ll succeed or fail because of them.”

Rebak was familiar with MTS from his background in big pharma. “I had a long history of being a highly satisfied client,” he mentions. “I know first-hand just how good the company is.” When he’s not in the office, Rebak enjoys spending his time outside. He coaches sports teams for his three young children, trains for triathlons and spends as much time in the ocean as possible.

And though it may be easy to dismiss, Rebak hasn’t forgotten his beginnings. “I’ve got my father, Doug Rebak, the founder of Phoenix Marketing, to thank for introducing me to the pharmaceutical industry, and Dave Reim, the founder of SimStar, to thank for bringing me over to the interactive side of healthcare.”
