Performing Carmen's Full-Face Transplant
In June of 2007, Carmen Tarleton, a registered nurse and mother of two, barely survived a brutal domestic assault that left her with extensive injuries and severe disfigurements. Carmen became the fifth person in the U.S. to receive a full-face transplant. Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, the director of plastic surgery transplantation at Brigham and Women's Hospital, explains how Carmen's elaborate procedure was performed.
